Definite and indefinite articles
We use a number of words in front of common nouns which we call determiners because they affect or determine the meaning of the noun. There are two classes:
words which help us to classify or identify | words which enable us to indicate quantity |
- indefinite article | I bought a new shirt yesterday. | - numbers | I bought two new shirts yesterday. |
- definite article | The shirt I'm wearing is new. | - quantifiers | I didn't buy many shirts yesterday. |
- demonstratives | I bought this/that shirt yesterday. | ||
